On the night of January 7, 2025, two women were arrested following a physical altercation on Cathay Pacific flight CX581, which had just arrived in Hong Kong from Sapporo. The incident reportedly began when a child’s cries agitated one of the passengers.
At approximately 9:40 PM, police received reports of a dispute involving passengers aboard the flight. A 60-year-old woman from mainland China, identified as Zhang, was traveling with her three-year-old child. The child's crying seemed to have triggered Zhang's agitation, leading to a confrontation with another passenger.
The second passenger, a 32-year-old local woman named Tsui, reacted by throwing a water bottle at Zhang, escalating the situation into a physical fight. A flight attendant, surnamed Hung, attempted to intervene but was unsuccessful in calming the two women.
During the scuffle, Tsui threw a cushion at Zhang, striking her in the upper body, to which Zhang responded by throwing a cushion back. Eventually, Hung contacted the police for assistance, resulting in the arrest of both women on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance. The case has been handed over to airport police for further investigation.
In the aftermath, Tsui sustained scrapes and wounds on her hand, along with bruises on her wrists, while Zhang reported discomfort in her chest. Both women declined medical attention at the hospital.
