On October 2, 2024, the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) announced the successful evacuation of three residents from Lebanon amid the escalating crisis in the region. This operation was conducted with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon and involved both maritime and air transport organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.
The decision to evacuate came after the HKSAR government raised its Outbound Travel Alert for Lebanon to black on September 30, advising residents to avoid all travel to the country. Those already in Lebanon were urged to prioritize their safety by either leaving the country or moving to safer locations as soon as possible.
The ImmD is in close contact with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong and the Chinese Embassy in Lebanon to monitor the situation closely. Hong Kong residents currently in Lebanon are encouraged to stay updated on local developments and follow directives from local authorities and the Chinese Embassy.
