Symptoms of a broken System

The recently posted extravagance and luxurious lifestyle of a public office holder in Nigeria over the internet is a symptom of a broken SYSTEM even though it was a recurrence of one out of many ridiculous displays by the same politicians times without a number.

Although the politician isn't the subject of this article but rather the symptom of a broken system which is not just in Nigeria but the entire African continent at large. The acclaimed politician claimed to have studied law likewise some of his same political monger colleagues. His flamboyant attitude had made headlines on several occasions which had set out controversy among his critics and loyalists.

Are we surprised about the recent display of luxuries by the politician or is it because he was been recorded by another well-known journalist? Both paid a crucial role in a country of over 200 million called the poverty capital of the world, where 90% lived below a dollar or can hardly afford 2 square meals per day. The root cause is the SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE called democracy where the so-called political big men are immune to justice when caught red-handed in corruption-related charges. This level of decadence in this part of the world's governance has deepened to the extent of the lawmakers to amend the legal system which gave them immunity or impunity while serving in public office so that they cannot be held accountable for their wayward decisions and actions in office. The system ensures the continuation of bad governance and that has hindered development on the continent. The evidence is crystal clear for whosoever cares to see.

Contrarily, were several incidents of life-sentenced jail or capital punishment of public office holders in China over the internet who were involved in bribing or any form of corruption. And if such should have happened in Nigeria, they would have been given chief titles as well as celebrated by his tribes' men.

This shows the typical mindset of an average Nigerian, so it's unwise to blame a politician who steals national resources freely but the SYSTEM that allows and promotes it. There are many Dino Melaye in the system and there are many awaiting Dino's on the list of political office. Nothing will change until the SYSTEM that breeds these viruses is cured.
