Yau Kwok-yee reportedly found lifeless by the officers from the Government Flying Service early on Tuesday at the foot of a two-metre drop in Ng To Shui, Tuen Mun.
Alone hiker who was announced missing on Sunday has been found dead in Hong Kong’s northwestern New Territories, Hong Kong police said.
The 67-year-old man named, Yau Kwok-yee was found by the officers from the Government Flying Service early on Tuesday at the foot of a two-metre drop in Ng To Shui, Tuen Mun, police stated.
Contrarily, the Fire Services Department later said he was found at a drop of five metres.
Afterwards, his remains were brought to the service’s headquarters at Hong Kong Airport and the circumstances behind Yau's death were not immediately clear.
The search efforts were immediately commenced by the police, firefighters, the Civil Aid Service and the Government Flying Service after his wife reported him missing to the police late Sunday evening.
According to the report, Yau was searched by the rescue team in the Castle Peak area, including Por Lo Shan, Lung Kwu Tan, Tsing Tai Stream, Fa Heung Lo Teng and Nim Wan.
The family of Yau was unable to contact him after he failed to return to his home in Tuen Mun.
He said he was going to hike in the Por Lo Shan area for a 3km (1.9-mile) northbound walk on Castle Peak, with Ha Pak Nai as his destination.
A GPS signal check at one point indicated that he was at Ng To Shui, situated at the upper portion of the well-known Tsing Tai Stream.
The family also shared the news of the Yau missing on social media.
Yau’s daughter previously told local media that a team of hikers had encountered her father at around 1 pm on Sunday at a rural spot called “Ching Chun Hung Kok” in the Castle Peak area.
The daughter earlier said Yau was a semi-retired hydraulic systems salesman who worked two to three days a week. He went hiking near his home on days off and usually returned between 4 pm and 5 pm.
Veteran mountaineer Chung Kin-man said trails in Tuen Mun were generally barren and lacked shade, while paths near Tsing Tai Stream could be slippery.
