On September 6, 2024, during the peak of Typhoon Yagi, four armed robbers invaded a home in Nam Hang Tsuen on Ting Kok Road, Tai Po. The assailants, armed with machetes, restrained a couple—49-year-old Mr. Chan and 40-year-old Ms. Lee—before making off with valuables worth approximately HK$800,000, including handbags, jewelry, watches, and a camera.
The robbers also seized an ATM-enabled credit card from the victims, forcing them to disclose their PIN. They then withdrew HK$40,000 in cash from a nearby ATM, located about 200 meters from the crime scene.
Following a swift investigation, law enforcement apprehended five men aged between 29 and 44 shortly after the robbery. Four of these suspects have been charged with robbery and appeared in Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts on September 14.
On September 18, authorities made further inquiries, resulting in the arrest of a 44-year-old local man, surnamed Song, on suspicion of handling stolen goods. He has been charged and is set to appear in Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on September 20.
During the operation, police successfully recovered a large portion of the stolen items, including luxury handbags and watches valued at around HK$720,000. One of the previously arrested individuals has been granted bail and is required to report to authorities in mid-October.
