The incident happened on the evening of December 10th when a Singaporean family of three visited a popular open-air food stall. They were reportedly unhappy with the nearby diners' smoking and decided to complain. As the family was preparing to leave and waiting for a taxi, Lau unexpectedly attacked the 54-year-old man from behind, hitting his head and then fleeing. Determined to hold Lau accountable, the Singaporean family pursued and intercepted him at the intersection of Woosung Street and North Sea Street, resulting in the physical altercation where all four individuals sustained injuries.
The police arrested all four individuals and took them to Kwong Wah Hospital for medical treatment. The case is classified as an assault causing actual bodily harm (AOABH) and is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Yau Tsim Mong Police District.
