The Shenzhen Bay border crossing will be available for the travellers for 24 hours through the approaching Lunar New Year from the 9th of February to 13th. Also, the Lo Wu checkpoint's operating hours would be extended until 2am from 9th to 11th February.

Both sides reached this agreement after “very smooth” negotiations with mainland Chinese authorities, Chief Executive of Hong Kong’s said, John Lee Ka-chiu.

Mr Lee told the reporters on Tuesday, “The process has been very smooth this time as we managed to reach a consensus with the Shenzhen authorities in a short period of time,” with the notes of thanks to the Chinese government  their support.

“It also shows that Hong Kong and Shenzhen are working together closely, sharing the same goals, and value the experience and feelings of the residents and tourists,” he added.

The authority said the efforts are the dispersal measures that would be put in place to prevent the repetition of the transport disorder that left thousands of mainland visitors stranded in Hong Kong after they watched the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The Lok Ma Chau checkpoint remains the same, as it is the only land control points that runs 24 hours.
