Greek authorities have mobilized emergency services on the holiday island of Santorini as hundreds of minor earthquakes continue to shake the region.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, a large number of residents and visitors gathered at the port, eager to board ferries to safety, while others sought to catch additional flights out of the island.

Since Friday, numerous tremors have been recorded every few minutes in the waters between the volcanic islands of Santorini and Amorgos in the Aegean Sea. Reports indicate that approximately one-third of Santorini's 16,000 residents have temporarily evacuated the island.

In response to the situation, authorities have closed schools until Friday and advised people to avoid coastal areas due to potential landslides and to refrain from indoor gatherings.
