Hong Kong man and an alleged accomplice who are wanted in mainland China for involving in a financial crime 59 million yuan (US$8.3 million) have been arrested in Phillipine and will be deported, Philippine immigration officials say.
According to the report, a Hongkong man named Hui Chi-lam, 55, allegedly sold financial products to investors without having the required qualifications and government permits in 2018 and was placed on mainland authorities’ wanted list in mid-March.
Hui and Su Yan, a 47-year-old Chinese national also on the wanted list, were arrested at their residence in Manila during an operation on October 31, the Bureau of Immigration said.
Philippines authorities said the immigration chief had issued an order at the request of the Chinese government, which had sought help in finding and deporting the two fugitives.
The pair, who were on tourist visas, also violated local immigration laws by overstaying in the country, the bureau said on Monday.
They were being held at a bureau detention facility in Taguig City, in southeastern Metro Manila, pending proceedings.
Joel Viado, the bureau’s commissioner, said the pair would be deported for being “undesirable aliens” and banned from re-entering the country.
Information from the Chinese judiciary showed court proceedings in Xinyu City, Jiangxi province, had been scheduled for mid-August to handle a private lending dispute involving the pair and a real estate company.
The company was founded in September 2003 and Hui was its legal representative. The registered capital amounted to US$4.2 million.

移民局稱,許和同在通緝名單上的47歲中國公民蘇岩在10月31日的一次行動中在馬尼拉的住所被捕。
菲律賓當局表示,移民局局長是應中國政府的要求發布命令的,中國政府曾尋求協助尋找並驅逐兩名逃犯。
該局週一表示,這兩人持有旅遊簽證,在該國逾期居留也違反了當地移民法。
他們被關押在馬尼拉大都會東南部達義市的一處拘留所,等待訴訟。
該局局長喬爾·維亞多(Joel Viado)表示,這兩人將因是「不受歡迎的外國人」而被驅逐出境,並禁止再次進入該國。
來自中國司法部門的資料顯示,江西省新餘市法院定於8月中旬開庭審理涉及兩人與一家房地產公司的民間借貸糾紛。
該公司成立於2003年9月,法定代理人為許先生。 註冊資本為420萬美元。
