Khalil Hashmi, the Pakistan's ambassador to China said he hoped to boost tourism and trade from Hong Kong.
In an exclusive interview with SCMP, Pakistan’s ambassador to China said Hong Kongers would soon have visa-free access to Pakistan as the country is believed to boost tourism and trade from Hong Kong.
Khalil Hashmi said “It is just a matter of time. I think visa-free access for Hong Kong residents to Pakistan would happen both for investment and trade, but also for tourism purposes.”
“We want people from Hong Kong to come and see what Pakistan has to offer,” he added.
Further in the interview, the ambassador stressed and urged the Hong Kong government to review the red travel alert the city placed on the nation since 2014.
Hong Kong stopped the free-visa to Pakistan’s residents in 2003. He said the free-visa move about to offer to Hong Kong residents is not to expect Hong Kong authorities to reciprocate but he hoped Pakistan’s step would encourage Hong Kong to follow suit “in time”.
Khalil Hashmi also said he would be very keen to have the leader of Hong Kong, John Lee Ka-chiu to visit Pakistan, noting his country would be “very pleased” to welcome him and prepare well for his visit. Through such visit, he said Pakistan’s government would like to show Hong Kong that Pakistan represented a big market for the city and greater interaction would be “mutually rewarding” for both places.
