Hong Kong is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures as multiple districts in the city are expected to experience plunging temperatures next Wednesday. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, a cold front will sweep across the southern coast of China from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, bringing along strong winter monsoon winds and significantly lowering temperatures in the region.
The latest nine-day weather forecast indicates that the city center will experience a frigid low of 19 to 26 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The following day, Sunday, temperatures are expected to plummet to a bone-chilling 15 degrees Celsius, marking an overnight drop of 11 degrees Celsius. However, the coldest day is predicted to be next Wednesday, January 24th, with the city center reaching a low of only 10 degrees Celsius. Certain areas in the New Territories could even see temperatures as low as 7 degrees Celsius.
The Hong Kong Observatory further elaborated that a brisk to strong northeast monsoon will continue to affect the southern coast of China until tomorrow. As the week progresses, the monsoon is expected to weaken gradually, allowing temperatures in Guangdong to rise. During the upcoming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, the region can anticipate relatively warmer weather.
Currently, the strong monsoon signal is in effect, and slightly cooler weather with intermittent periods of sunshine is expected today. Moderate to strong easterly winds will blow, particularly offshore and on higher ground, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius. Tomorrow, the wind is expected to remain strong, resulting in slightly cooler weather. However, the latter part of the week will bring warmth during the daytime. Significantly cooler temperatures are forecasted for Sunday.
In the next few days, there will be sunny intervals, and the latter part of the week will see warmer temperatures during the day. However, temperatures will progressively drop, becoming increasingly cold after Sunday. The minimum temperature is predicted to fall to 11 degrees Celsius or below.
Residents of Hong Kong are advised to make necessary preparations for the upcoming cold spell and take appropriate measures to stay warm and safe.
