New Territories Braces for Scorching Temperatures

Hong Kong, 26 June 2024 - The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a Very Hot Weather Warning signal as the New Territories region prepares to face searing heat over the next few days.

According to the forecast, temperatures are expected to reach around 34°C in urban areas, with parts of the New Territories potentially experiencing temperatures of 35°C or higher. The intense heat is being driven by a strengthening subtropical ridge over southeastern China.

Despite some expected isolated showers, the weather will remain predominantly sunny and dry. Moderate easterly to southeasterly winds may provide some relief, but the overall conditions will be persistently very hot.

Looking ahead, the scorching temperatures are anticipated to continue over the next several days. As the weekend approaches, more widespread showers are expected, extending into early next week. However, the heat is likely to persist even with the increased rainfall.

By the middle of next week, forecasters predict the subtropical ridge will reassert its influence, leading to a return to generally fine and sweltering weather across the region. Residents of the New Territories are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat, staying hydrated and limiting time outdoors during the hottest periods of the day.
