HONG KONG - The MTR Corporation today announced that it will provide free rides to people with disabilities and an accompanying carer on the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 12 November. The initiative aims to promote inclusivity and care for people with disabilities.
The MTR Corporation stated that passengers holding a valid "Registration Card for Persons with Disabilities" or a personal Octopus indicating their disability status will not be charged fares for that day's journey.
Passengers can also go to the customer service center, information desk or contact station staff at MTR stations and Airport Express stations, and present the registration card and specify the destination to receive a one-way ticket valid for the day. Eligible passengers can also request a one-way ticket for an accompanying caregiver.
To facilitate barrier-free travel for the elderly and passengers with special needs, the Hong Kong Metro launched the "MTR Care" mobile application at the end of last year. Recently, the app was updated with a feature that allows users to check the accessibility of stations.
It also provides real-time information on elevator operations, covering all heavy rail stations. With its user-friendly interface and clear instructions, the app aims to make it easier for passengers in need to access relevant information.
