A maid has continued to steal items such as makeup and jewelry despite being caught stealing by her employer multiple times, even showing off a stolen diamond necklace she had on TikTok.
The 35-year-old Indonesian citizen pleaded guilty to two of three theft charges on Tuesday (Nov 21) and was sentenced to eight weeks in jail, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The maid was hired in 2019 and was responsible for taking care of the employer's children and doing household chores such as cleaning and changing bed sheets.
While at work, she was caught stealing several times by her 43-year-old female employer.
When asked about the theft, the maid reportedly apologized and begged her employer to let her off the hook. Her employer obliged and allowed her to continue working.
However, the maid sneaked into her employer's bedroom in November 2021 and stole a Cartier bracelet and diamond necklace worth $2,000.
She then uploaded a video on TikTok on November 12 of herself wearing a diamond necklace.
The defendant admitted she stole the items while she was home alone and "showed off" them on TikTok.
Although her employer was lenient and took no action against her, the maid continued to steal repeatedly.
The prosecution argued that the defendant abused her employer's trust in her and her initial forgiveness. The stolen items have not been recovered and no returns have been made by the maid.
In requesting a lighter sentence, the maid's lawyer said that the maid's criminal behavior was not premeditated and that she had realized her mistake.
