Two planes collided at the heavy-snowed tarmac of Japan airport on Tuesday which happened to be the second aircraft incident in the country within a couple of weeks.

According to a Korean Air official statement that said, its flight KE766 clipped the wing of a parked Cathay Pacific Airways plane at New Chitose Airport on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido at around 5:35 pm local time amid wintry weather.

However, no injuries were reported on either aircraft, and no fire or fuel leaks were detected, a fire department spokesperson told local news media.

Cathay later announced that its flight CX583 from Sapporo to Hong Kong would not operate as scheduled due to the incident but most customers would be moved onto another service on Tuesday and the rest on Wednesday.

The Korean Air plane had 276 passengers and 13 crew members on board but there was no one on the Cathay aircraft, the report said.

The collision happened around 5:35 pm local time, when a towing car pushing the Korean Air plane backwards towards a runway ahead of departure slipped on some snow, leading the jet’s left wing to bump the Cathay Pacific plane’s right tail wing, the Korean Air official said.

There was no immediate word on the severity of damage to the aircraft, or what exactly caused the taxiing jet to clip the parked one.

The incident comes two weeks after a deadly crash at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, where Japan Airlines Flight 516 carrying 379 people burst into flames after colliding with a coast guard plane.

Over 80 inbound and outbound domestic and international flights at New Chitose Airport have been cancelled due to bad weather on Tuesday, the airport spokesperson said.
