July 28, 2024 - Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has expressed his heartfelt congratulations to fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai and her coach on winning the first medal for Hong Kong at the Paris Olympics.
Kong won the gold medal in the Women's Épée Individual event on the first day of the games. "She has earned the well-deserved gold medal," Lee said. "She has once again made history for Hong Kong fencing and proved the extraordinary capabilities of Hong Kong athletes, making all Hong Kong people proud."
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung also extended his congratulations to Kong. "Witnessing the triumphant moment firsthand, I am both touched and delighted by her performance and demeanor as a great athlete," Yeung said as he celebrated the win with Kong and her team in Paris.
This is Hong Kong's first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The city leader expressed his wishes that the Hong Kong team will continue to achieve remarkable results in other events.
李家超祝賀江旻慧在巴黎奧運會奪金
