Intense Fire Engulfs Hung Shui Kiu Construction Site for 17 Hours

In a major incident at the construction site in Hung Shui Kiu, Tin Shui Wai, a relentless fire has been raging for a staggering 17 hours. The fire, initially classified as a No. 3 alarm, escalated to a No. 4 alarm, prompting a large-scale firefighting operation. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but more than 150 workers were evacuated.

The fire broke out around 1:20 PM on Tuesday, shrouding the construction site in thick smoke. The Fire Services Department swiftly responded by dispatching seven fire jets and mobilizing two breathing apparatus teams to combat the inferno. Thanks to their prompt action, all 152 workers were successfully evacuated, ensuring their safety.

The construction site, situated at the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen Dedicated Rehousing Estate Phase Two, is a project undertaken by the Housing Society. As concerns arose about the potential collapse of two approximately 50-meter-high cranes within the site, the fire was upgraded to a No. 4 alarm at 9:31 PM. In response, the area cordoned off around the site was expanded, and two aerial water cannons were deployed to cool down the cranes' bases. After an inspection by the Buildings Department, no immediate danger was found.

Despite the tireless efforts of the fire brigade throughout the night, the blaze, covering an area of 70 meters by 80 meters (over 5,000 square meters), has remained unextinguished. The site houses a significant amount of construction materials and fuel containers, contributing to the thick smoke and temperatures reaching nearly 500 degrees Celsius. To address these challenges, the Fire Services Department has utilized unmanned aerial drones for high-altitude reconnaissance and deployed firefighting robots to assist in extinguishing the flames. Firefighters continue to douse the perimeter with water to reduce the heat.

The situation at the Hung Shui Kiu construction site remains critical as authorities work relentlessly to bring the fire under control. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
