Hong Kong Observatory warns of possible typhoon on Sunday.
There was a warning by Hong Kong Observatory that there may be formation of typhoon on Sunday, as well as the expectation for a very hot and unstable weather for next week.
The Hong Kong weather watchdog said a prediction from computer model where the information is being sought, showed two convective cloud clusters near the Philippines could form a low-pressure area and then develop into a tropical cyclone close to the city as soon as Sunday morning.
It said further that satellite images currently placed the two prominent convective cloud clusters to the east of the Southeast Asian country.
A subtropical ridge of high-pressure, which had brought persistently hot weather to the city over the past two weeks, would also move westwards towards Hong Kong early next week, the forecaster added.
While the Observatory noted recent prediction models lacked a consensus on the expected intensity of the lower-pressure area, a prediction from Guangdong Meteorological Bureau suggested it could develop into a typhoon.
Local temperatures over the weekend were predicted to remain between 29°C and 34°C with a low chance of rain and fresh offshore winds, the forecaster said.
Another broad low-pressure trough is also expected to bring more showers near the coast of Guangdong from middle to late next week, with a US prediction forecasting a “relatively strong tropical cyclone” could form in the South China Sea.
“A low-pressure area may form within the trough, with the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone,” the Observatory said, while noting “considerable divergence” in the prediction models.

預報員表示，預計週末當地氣溫將保持在 29°C 至 34°C 之間，降雨和新近海風的可能性很小。
另一個廣泛的低壓槽預計也將在下周中下旬為廣東沿海帶來更多陣雨，美國預測南海可能形成「相對較強的熱帶氣旋」。
天文台表示：「低壓槽內可能會形成低壓區，有可能發展成為熱帶氣旋。」同時注意到預測模型中存在「相當大的分歧」。
