Hong Kong to ready for the rain and thunderstorms, Observatory says

The Hong Kong Observatory issued a thunderstorm warning at 3.15 pm on Sunday and said an area of thundery showers associated with a trough of low pressure was approaching the Pearl River Delta, which might affect the city in the next couple of hours.

“Members of the public should be aware of the change in weather,” the Observatory said.

The Hong Kong weather watchdog said that the warning was expected to be in force until 6 pm.

“Thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong,” the weather forecaster said.

The public is advised to avoid engaging in outdoor water sports, standing on high ground or staying near trees, masts and other highly conductive objects during thunderstorms.

A few showers were expected on Monday, leading to windier conditions and sunny intervals in the following few days, according to the latest forecast.

Unsettled weather has been hitting the city since the beginning of the month, with residents enduring a roller-coaster ride of thunderstorms, heavy rain warnings and strong winds.
