Philippine-born Hong Kong singer Kenny Kwan recently suffered second-degree burns.
The 42-year-old posted on Instagram on Friday (December 1) that he wanted to share his ordeal following his recovery.
"This happened exactly two weeks ago on Thursday night," he wrote. "I was in an accident, a domestic accident. There was a gas leak and I accidentally started a fire that caused second-degree burns on my face and hands."
Second-degree burns affect both the upper (epidermis) and lower layers (dermis) of the skin.
A collage of three photos showed Kenny with red and peeling skin on his face, wearing a hair cap and white ointment on his face, before making a full recovery.
Kenny wrote that he wanted to post a photo of himself after being burned, but thought it was best not to do so for fear of scaring his followers.
He added that he had been washing his face with cold water after the accident. When he woke up, he found that his hair and eyebrows were singed, and his face and lips were red and swollen.
He recalled feeling "overwhelmed and scared" and with his heart beating very fast. It took him five minutes to realize that he should get a car and go to the hospital.
The burn did not stop Kenny from attending the event the following day (November 17), as the event had already been postponed once. He did not tell organizers about the accident and tried to hide his injuries with makeup.
"Some fans asked me why I was wearing gloves, they thought my nose was red because of the cold weather," he shared. “They even joked that I had lip fillers.”
Although he had to cancel some work projects, as well as singer and actress Charlene Choi's birthday party, Kenny was thankful for his quick recovery and said it was "a miracle" that the peeling was healed after only a week.
Kenney added that this may be because he takes more than 10 vitamins a day, writing: "I was also surprised by my recovery and metabolism rate."
He also said that he applied ointment regularly and avoided the sun, and that except for his eyebrows, which have not yet fully grown back, he has made a "mostly complete recovery."
Singer Joey Yung left a string of heartbroken emojis in the comments section, adding: "Luckily you're still handsome."
Charlene also commented: "You really scared me to death!"
Kenny formed the Cantonese pop duo Boy'z (now known as Sun Boy'z) in 2002 with his friend Teo Cheung, leaving in 2005 to pursue a solo career. He rejoined in 2010.
He has also appeared in the TV series "Banana Boy" (2012) and "Fish" (2013) and in the films "Fox Lover" (2013) and "Lights Out" (2014).
