The Li Ka Shing Foundation has gifted 4,200 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong a free trip to the Disneyland Resort in gratitude for their contributions to local families.

The domestic workers each received a one-day ticket, a transport allowance of HK$80 (US$10) in Octopus card credit and meals valued at HK$365, with the sponsorship excluding the tickets that cost a total of HK$1.86 million.

A one-day admission ticket costs HK$669, according to the Disneyland website.

A group visited Disneyland on Lantau Island for free last Sunday and another will do so on January 26, sponsored by the charity organisation founded by tycoon Li Ka-shing.

The foundation said that the event aimed to “create unforgettable happy memories for those domestic workers who are working hard in Hong Kong and far away from home”.

The total of 4,200 domestic workers that will participate in this year’s outing is 5 per cent more than the 4,000 last year.

The event was supported by five non-profit organisations that work closely with domestic workers: HELP for Domestic Workers, Splash, Enrich, Pathfinders and Mission for Migrant Workers.
