The hottest day of the year was recorded in Hong Kong on Friday as the temperature climbed to 34.6 °C in urban areas while some areas of the city experienced close to 36°C.
The forecaster said “The subtropical ridge is bringing generally fine and very hot weather to southeastern China,”
“Locally, the maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 34.6 degrees in the afternoon, the highest so far this year.” the forecaster added.
Hong Kong Observatory recorded the extremely hot urban temperature at around 2.30pm at its headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui. The temperatures record were higher in other areas of the city, with the mercury as high as 35.7°C in Sheung Shui. Ta Kwu Ling, Yuen Long Park and Chek Lap Kok also saw temperatures up to or higher than 35°C, the report said.
The Hong Kong weather watchdog said the subtropical ridge was expected to weaken moving into the weekend, but that temperatures would remain very hot over the coast of southern China.
The forecaster forecasted sunny periods and a few isolated showers on Saturday. Sunday is expected to be mainly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms while the temperature is anticipated to reach 33°C over both days, with lows of 28°C.

天氣預報員預計週六會有晴朗天氣和零星陣雨。 週日預計以多雲為主，有局部雷陣雨，預計這兩天氣溫將達到 33°C，最低氣溫為 28°C。
