According to the police, the officers acting on intelligence caught the suspect when exiting a subdivided flat in the Kwai Chung industrial building on Wednesday afternoon.
After a police search, two bags with 1.8kg of suspected ketamine, cutting tools and a cylindrical-shaped filter that had been slashed open were found at the scene. Moreover, a large air purifier containing 11 identical filters was also among them.
“Upon inspection, another 19.8kg of suspected ketamine was found hidden in the 11 filters,” the police spokesperson said.
A police spokesperson stated that the preliminary investigations established that the air purifier was shipped to Hong Kong from abroad before it was transferred to the flat, where the drugs were taken out.
Afterwards, the suspect was arrested for allegedly trafficking in a dangerous drug.
The maximum penalty for trafficking in a dangerous drug is life in jail and a fine of HK$5,000,000 on indictment or 3 years' imprisonment and a fine of HK$500,000 on summary conviction.
Police said the investigations are ongoing and further arrests are not ruled out.
