Two men, aged 33 and 34 years old have been apprehended on suspicion of producing and possessing bombs, Hong Kong police said on Tuesday

They were caught in Wong Chuk Hang on Sunday after officers discovered homemade burning pieces of equipment and chemicals in their possession.

Police thought that the site was used to conduct bomb tests. It was added that 30 kilograms of chemicals and raw materials were also found at the suspects' homes.

According to the Chief Inspector, Wong Chi-yu, the investigation so far revealed that the suspects had no particular targets to attack.

But believed the suspects had an anti-government stance, adding that the raw materials they believed to possess were readily available in the market and could be processed to make bombs.

The Inspector said in the press interview "There is a chance that what was seized can be used to produce the so-called TATP or dynamites of the ammonium nitrate type. It is possible the raw materials can be turned into these two types of dynamites,” the inspector told a press briefing.
