According to the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), Hong Kong residents endured hotter weather in July 2024 compared to previous years. The HKO reported that a stronger-than-normal subtropical ridge over southern China led to a monthly mean temperature of 29.9 degrees Celsius in July - 1 degree above the normal and the fourth highest July temperature on record.

The mean maximum temperature was 32.4 degrees, 0.8 degrees above average, while the mean minimum was 28.0 degrees, 1.1 degrees higher than usual. These marked the ninth and third highest July maximums and minimums, respectively.
On July 6th, a daily maximum of 34 degrees was recorded, considered among the highest for moderate heat levels. The hottest day of the month was July 7th, which reached a high of 34.8 degrees.
While rainfall for the month was about 19% above normal at 458.5 millimeters, the total rainfall for the first seven months of 2024 was still around 10% below average at 1,321.9 millimeters.
The HKO's data indicates that Hong Kong experienced a prolonged period of hotter than typical weather in July 2024, with multiple high temperature records either matched or exceeded during the month. This underscores the impact of the stronger-than-normal subtropical conditions over southern China.
