May 21, 2024 - The Hong Kong Observatory has issued an Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal as of 10am today, alerting residents to imminent heavy rainfall across the region. This warning comes in response to a trough of low pressure affecting weather patterns over the northern South China Sea and Guangdong coastline, combined with an easterly airstream impacting the eastern Guangdong coast.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, as the forecast predicts cloudy skies with occasional showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The initial phase is expected to bring particularly intense rainfall. Winds will range from moderate to fresh from the east, with stronger gusts likely offshore and in elevated areas.

Looking ahead, the weather is set to remain unsettled, with scattered showers continuing over the next few days. Conditions are expected to worsen towards the weekend. The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and prepare for sudden weather changes, as the Observatory continues to monitor and provide updates on the developing situation.
