The Hong Kong Lunar New Year parade which used to come up yearly will be back after a five-year pause as the result of the civil unrest in the city and COVID-19 pandemic.

The organisers have made a statement that this year's event will be made up of the largest-ever number of performing groups from overseas.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced on Thursday that the event would take place on 10th of February which is the first day of the Year of the Dragon with around 150,000 spectators expected. The tourists would contribute at least 30 per cent of the attendants, it was said.

The Tourism board said the event would feature 16 international performance groups and 13 local ones. Acts taking part will include Japanese female pop dance group Avantgardey, Spain’s the Light Dancers and German troupe the Universe of Lights.

The parade route along Tsim Sha Tsui is the same as before. It would begin from the Hong Kong Cultural Center, along Canton Road, Haiphong Road and Nathan Road and finish up at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel, the organizer's said.
