The Hong Kong government has issued a warning to its residents regarding travel to the United Kingdom, advising them to exercise caution and avoid large gatherings amid the ongoing protests and riots in the country.
In a statement, the government spokesperson said Hong Kong residents who plan to visit the UK or are already there should closely monitor the situation, prioritize their personal safety, and pay attention to local announcements for the latest updates.
Residents in the UK who require assistance can contact the 24-hour hotline at (852) 1868, use the chatbot via the Immigration Department mobile app, or reach out to the Chinese Embassy in the UK at the consular protection hotline: (44) 7536174993.
The Security Bureau stated it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates through various channels, including the media, the Bureau's mobile app, and the Outbound Travel Alert webpage.
The spokesperson noted that the existing Amber travel alert for the UK remains in effect. This alert advises travelers to exercise a high degree of caution when visiting the country.
The ongoing unrest in the UK, which has involved clashes between protesters and police, has prompted the Hong Kong government to issue this advisory, underscoring the need for its citizens to prioritize their safety when planning or undertaking trips to the affected areas.
