Japan police on Wednesday arrested a Hong Kong firefighter in Tokyo after he was accused of having sexually assaulted a local woman in her 20s, during a trip with his wife, Japanese news outlet Asahi Shimbun reported.
The firefighter Wong Yiu-tak, 30, was said to be on a trip to Japan with his wife before the arrest. It is understood that the firefighter is a station officer attached to Kowloon station.
According to reports, Wong arrived in Japan with his wife on 22nd April, and stayed in a hotel in Tokyo. He was said to have left his wife alone in the hotel the following night at around 10.30 pm to get dinner, after which he hit on a local woman who was returning home at that time.
Wong then requested the woman to bring him to a nearby ramen shop. While on their way, Wong allegedly dragged the woman into a men’s washroom inside a building and sexually assaulted her.
Following reports of the incident, local police identified Wong after going through CCTV footage. Wong was arrested three days later on April 26 when he checked out of the hotel.
Wong remained silent during the investigation. Responding to media inquiries, the Fire Services Department confirmed that one of their serving officers has been involved in a case that happened in Japan.
The department said the officer was on vacation during that time and the department is currently looking into the incident with no further comment.
