Hong Kong is preparing for a significant increase in humidity levels as a maritime airstream is expected to displace the current easterly flow along the Guangdong coastline. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the relative humidity is forecasted to reach 100% over the next two days.
Starting tomorrow, a southeasterly wind will bring a wave of moist air, resulting in dense fog along the coastal areas and pushing humidity levels above 90% in 11 districts of the city by morning. Residents are advised to take precautions and be mindful of the humid conditions.
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has issued a warning to citizens using dehumidifiers. To prevent potential hazards, it is strongly recommended not to position these appliances in bathrooms or under damp garments.
As for the weather conditions, the upcoming days will be warm with predominantly cloudy skies, accompanied by mist and occasional light rain. Visibility around the harbor has already decreased to approximately 2000 meters.
Looking ahead, the warm and foggy conditions are expected to persist in the near term. However, a change is on the horizon as temperatures are set to decline. The mercury is predicted to drop to 17 degrees Celsius by Tuesday, followed by a further decrease to 16 degrees on Wednesday. This shift in temperature can be attributed to the arrival of a northeast monsoon along the southern coast of China.
