Hong Kong and Singapore Foster Stronger Economic Ties through High-Level Meeting




Hong Kong's Chief Executive, Mr. John Lee, and Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Mr. Heng Swee Keat, held a significant meeting aimed at strengthening the economic partnership between the two dynamic Asian economies.

The meeting, which took place on April 12, 2024, showcased the commitment of both regions to bolstering their ties. Notable attendees included Hong Kong's Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr. Michael Wong, the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Ms. Carol Yip, and the Consul General of Singapore in Hong Kong, Mr. Ong Siew Gay.


This meeting marks a significant milestone in the growing relationship between Hong Kong and Singapore, building upon their previous meeting in Singapore in July of the previous year. Mr. Lee emphasized the long-standing and fruitful partnership between the two regions, highlighting Singapore as Hong Kong's largest trading partner within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In 2023, bilateral trade between the two territories reached an impressive HK$394.7 billion.


Looking towards the future, Mr. Lee expressed Hong Kong's dedication to enhancing collaboration in emerging sectors such as the green and digital economies. He envisioned these sectors as catalysts for broader regional cooperation and economic dynamism. Furthermore, Mr. Lee expressed gratitude to the Singaporean government for its support of Hong Kong's early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), emphasizing the potential benefits for regional economic integration and growth.


The upgraded status of China-Singapore relations to an All Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership further highlights the significance of this meeting. Mr. Lee reaffirmed Hong Kong's unique position under the 'one country, two systems' framework, emphasizing its role as a 'super connector' and 'super value-adder.' Hong Kong is poised to enhance economic ties and promote mutual prosperity between China and Singapore.


The high-level meeting between Hong Kong and Singapore signifies a strong commitment to strengthening economic cooperation. The leaders' focus on collaboration in emerging sectors and the support for regional integration sets a positive trajectory for future growth and prosperity between the two regions.






香港同新加坡透過高層會議加強經濟合作關係


香港特首李家超先生與新加坡副總理兼經濟政策協調部長王瑞傑先生於2024年4月12日舉行了一場重要會議,旨在加強這兩個充滿活力的亞洲經濟體之間的經濟合作夥伴關係。此次會議彰顯了兩個地區加強合作的承諾。與會者包括香港副財政司王智達先生、特首辦主任葉婉兒女士以及新加坡駐香港總領事翁修佳先生。


此次會議是香港與新加坡關係發展的重要里程碑,繼續建立在兩國去年7月於新加坡舉行的會議基礎之上。李家超先生強調了兩個地區長期以來的互利合作關係,並指出新加坡是香港在東南亞國家協會(ASEAN)中最大的貿易夥伴。2023年,兩地之間的雙邊貿易額達到了可觀的3947億港元。
