The Hong Kong Observatory is set to evaluate the potential issuance of Standby Signal No. 1 from Friday evening through early Saturday due to the approaching Tropical Cyclone Yinxing. Currently located over the seas east of Luzon, Yinxing is projected to come within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong between Thursday night, November 7, and Friday morning, November 8, before moving westward across the northern South China Sea.
Although the cyclone's size is relatively small, the influence of the northeast monsoon introduces uncertainties regarding its movement and strength as it enters the South China Sea. Consequently, windy conditions are expected over the waters and high ground along the southern Chinese coast throughout the weekend.
The Observatory will closely monitor Yinxing’s distance from the Pearl River Estuary, any changes in its intensity, and local wind conditions to make a decision on the standby signal. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather information.
As of noon, Typhoon Yinxing has intensified into a severe typhoon, situated approximately 550 kilometers northeast of Manila, moving west-northwest at about 12 kilometers per hour towards the Luzon Strait. For the remainder of the day, Hong Kong can expect fine and dry weather, with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore. The outlook for the upcoming days indicates slightly cooler mornings with minimum temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius, though conditions will likely become cloudier over the weekend, accompanied by swells.
