However, due to scheduling conflicts with the English Premier League, it is unlikely that EPL teams will participate this time.
The tournament organizers are considering the participation of Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian club known for its star-studded lineup, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, Otávio, and Aymeric Laporte. They are also exploring the possibility of inviting teams from East European countries or the Portuguese league.
The matches are expected to take place at the Kai Tak Sports Park, serving as one of the inaugural events at the newly built stadium. To ensure a successful tournament and avoid any issues similar to the previous "Messi fallout," the Hong Kong Football Association intends to take necessary measures to maintain the stadium in perfect condition.
However, it is important to note that the idea of hosting the friendly tournament is still in the early planning stage, and no concrete arrangements have been made yet. HKFA Chairman Pui Kwan-kay emphasized that while there are plans to celebrate the opening of the sports park with a grand event, nothing is confirmed at this point.
Lawmaker Johnny Ng Kit-chong expressed his expectation that top English Premier League teams would be invited to participate in the first football exhibition match at Kai Tak. He believes that such a match would attract more visitors and stimulate tourism and economic activities in the vicinity of the sports park. He urged the authorities to seize this opportunity to promote Hong Kong.
