A Filipina appeared in the Eastern District Court today and was charged with stealing $178,800 in cash from her employer's unit in Happy Valley.
Maribel Metiam, 33, was sent back to jail after a brief court appearance before Magistrate Minnie Wat adjourned next hearing for January 18.
The defense lawyer had earlier asked for a four-week postponement so he could obtain and study copies of documents from the prosecution that could be used as evidence against Maitiam.
He did not seek her bail because she had no place to stay while the case was pending.
According to the charges filed by the police at the Kwun Tong Court, Metiam was arrested on October 20 at the home of her employer, Mary Lau, in Siu Fai Terrace, Happy Valley.
