The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions has teamed up with mainland-backed food distributor Ng Fung Hong to host a two-day fair starting this Sunday. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase Ng Fung Hong's food products at significantly reduced prices, with discounts reaching up to 40% on selected items.
Following the fair, a three-month group-buying program will allow the public to order their favorite food items online for scheduled pickup at designated locations.
FTU chairman Kingsley Wong Kwok emphasized the organization's commitment to providing better quality and lower-priced goods through enhanced collaboration with Chinese enterprises. This initiative aims to encourage public spending in Hong Kong amid the ongoing economic downturn.
The fair will be held on the 8th floor of the FTU's Workers' Club in To Kwa Wan, and admission is free. It will feature a diverse range of food products, including items specifically for the upcoming Lunar New Year. Wong expressed hope that the fair would help citizens make special purchases for the holiday, demonstrating that high-quality, affordable goods are available in Hong Kong.
Amy Pan Hongsa, Deputy General Manager of the distribution division, noted that the fair will showcase over 100 products, including eight-flavored seasoned cooked chicken, cured meats, rice, and noodles. For example, two seasoned cooked chickens will be priced at just HK$95, which is lower than the HK$100 price at this year's Food Expo.
For those preferring not to buy whole chickens, poultry soup packets will be available for HK$75 for two, compared to the market price of HK$70 per packet. Additionally, five kilograms of rice will be offered at HK$48 per packet, and six packets of noodles will cost HK$42, both representing a 40% discount off market prices.
The fair will also feature locally sourced products, such as Qingke barley noodles, made from a principal cereal grown on the Tibetan Plateau, known for its high protein and dietary fiber content. Other products include White Rabbit Creamy Candy and Hua Diao Wine.
