Eight Monkeys Found Dead at Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens

On October 14, 2024, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced the unfortunate discovery of eight deceased monkeys at the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG). The animals included a De Brazza’s Monkey, a Common Squirrel Monkey, three Cotton-top Tamarins, and three White-faced Sakis.

In response to this distressing incident, the LCSD has coordinated with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to conduct necropsies and laboratory analyses to determine the cause of death.

To ensure safety and thorough cleaning, the Mammals Section of HKZBG will be closed for disinfection starting today. Meanwhile, the rest of the gardens will remain open to visitors, providing a tranquil escape into nature while authorities monitor the situation and await test results.
