Driver Kills 10 in New Orleans; FBI Investigates Possible Terror Links

On New Year’s Day, a tragic incident occurred in New Orleans' French Quarter when a driver plowed a pickup truck into a crowd, resulting in 10 fatalities and over 30 injuries. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was subsequently killed in a confrontation with police. Authorities are treating the incident as a potential act of terrorism and do not believe Jabbar acted alone.

The FBI revealed that an Islamic State flag was discovered on the vehicle’s trailer hitch. Additionally, investigators found firearms and pipe bombs hidden within coolers, both of which were wired for remote detonation. A remote control corresponding to these devices was also located inside Jabbar's truck.

The attack disrupted festivities, leading to the postponement of a college football playoff game scheduled at the nearby Superdome. Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, was an Army veteran, and the FBI is currently investigating his connections to any terrorist organizations.

Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, stated, "We believe he was honorably discharged, but we are working to confirm all details." The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover more about Jabbar’s affiliations.
