HONG KONG - A man has been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving. This follows a serious car accident in which an eight-month-old baby and a foreign domestic helper were thrown from the vehicle. As of Monday, the baby remained in critical condition, while the maid's condition was also reported to be serious.
The incident occurred on the Tolo Highway towards Sheung Shui. According to reports, the vehicle driven by the 52-year-old father collided with the curb. Also sitting in the car were the child's mother, a maid and another woman.
A police spokesman said, "The maid was sitting in the back seat of the car holding the baby. During the collision, when the car door opened, both of them were ejected from the car."
Afterwards, the father complained of chest pain, while the unidentified woman experienced neck discomfort. The two were immediately sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po for medical treatment.
Unfortunately, the baby suffered serious head and arm injuries, while the 28-year-old domestic help also suffered injuries to her head, arms and legs. The baby's mother, 32, also complained of chest pain after the collision. The three were quickly sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin.
The baby's health condition remained critical as of Monday morning, according to a government spokesman. Meanwhile, the maid's health condition was listed as serious as of Sunday evening.
