Department of Health Issues Warning About Deceptive Ads Promising Free Government Dental Care

The Department of Health (DH) in Hong Kong has recently expressed concern over deceptive advertisements that are circulating on social media and online platforms. These fraudulent ads falsely claim to provide free government dental care services and make use of official logos from the DH and the Centre for Health Protection.

The ads misleadingly state that the government will offer cost-free dental care to individuals between the ages of 6 and 70. However, the DH has made it clear that it has neither published nor authorized the dissemination of such advertisements. Furthermore, all the claims made in these ads are completely fabricated.

Taking swift action, the DH has reported this matter to the police. It is important to note that while the government does provide subsidies for the elderly to access private healthcare services, including dental care, through programs like the Elderly Health Care Voucher program, and there are initiatives such as the Elderly Dental Assistance Programme and the dental grant provided under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme to support individuals facing financial hardship, the government only offers free dental services for the management of dental emergencies within the public domain.

The DH's warning serves as a reminder to the public to be cautious and vigilant when encountering advertisements promising free government dental care services. It is advisable to verify the authenticity of such claims and seek information from reliable sources. The DH emphasizes that it is committed to ensuring the health and well-being of the public and will take necessary actions to combat fraudulent activities in the healthcare sector.

The DH urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious advertisements or activities related to healthcare services to the appropriate authorities. It is essential to rely on accurate and verified information to make informed decisions about healthcare options and services.
