Hong Kong, April 8, 2025 – The newly inaugurated Kai Tak Sports Park is set to host its inaugural major concert tonight, featuring the renowned British band Coldplay. The tourism sector is optimistic about the event's potential to draw international visitors to Hong Kong and increase foot traffic to local attractions, including theme parks.

Timothy Chui Ting-pong, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Association, expressed confidence in the city's ability to attract tourists, citing the success of recent events like the rugby sevens. He noted a rise in visitors from Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia, many of whom are traveling independently to attend the concert. This influx is expected to positively influence local sightseeing bus services.

Chui mentioned that discussions with the sports park management have taken place regarding potential travel packages that will include concert tickets. He hopes for more collaborative initiatives in the future to enhance the concert experience for attendees.

On the transportation front, Chui is assured that logistics for the Coldplay concert will be effectively managed, despite the event potentially extending past 10 PM. Organizers are prepared for the expected number of mainland visitors, and even if some attendees cannot use the MTR, sufficient cross-border shuttle buses will be available. Additionally, many tour bus companies are offering ticket packages that include transportation, easing any potential transport issues.

Overall, the concert is anticipated to significantly boost tourism and enhance transportation options in Hong Kong.
