In the early hours of today, near Golden Bauhinia Square on Expo Drive in Wan Chai, a heartening incident unfolded as brave Chinese students and police came together to save a distressed woman from drowning.
At approximately 1:08 am, a 23-year-old mainland Chinese woman was seen near the Golden Bauhinia Square with a local male companion. It appeared that the woman was unhappy, possibly due to relationship issues. Seizing an opportune moment when her companion was away, she impulsively jumped into the sea in an attempt to take her own life.
Fortunately, three students from Shenzhen University, who happened to be in the vicinity engaged in conversation, heard the splash and witnessed the woman's desperate act. Reacting swiftly, the students rushed to the scene and found the distressed woman struggling in the water near the shore, crying inconsolably. Showing immense concern for her safety, one of the students courageously called out, "Do you need help?" To which the woman pleaded, "Save me! Save me!" Without hesitation, one of the students grabbed a lifebuoy nearby and threw it into the water to assist her.
Meanwhile, the woman's male companion, who had briefly left the scene, returned to find his partner in the water. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he urgently sought help from workers at a nearby construction vehicle, who promptly reported the incident to the authorities.
Rescue personnel arrived swiftly and successfully pulled the distressed woman to safety. One of the police officers, recognizing the urgency of the situation, bravely jumped into the sea to aid the person in distress. With the assistance of the fire department's divers, both the female victim and the officer were lifted onto a Marine Police speedboat and transported to the shore for further medical attention. The woman regained consciousness at a nearby pier before being taken to the hospital for further treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to her attempted suicide, which is believed to be a result of emotional distress caused by relationship problems.
The three heroic students from Shenzhen University, all in their third year of studies, were visiting Hong Kong for sightseeing and had plans to return to Shenzhen later in the day. When interviewed by reporters, one of the students humbly remarked, "Being an anonymous good Samaritan is all that matters!"
