As the iPhone 16 series launches, many in Hong Kong face a financial challenge in purchasing the new smartphone. The starting price for the iPhone 16 is HK$6,899, while the iPhone 16 Pro starts at HK$8,599, and the Pro Max can reach up to HK$10,199.

With an average monthly salary of around HK$17,342, Hong Kong workers earn about HK$826 per day based on a 21-day work month. This situation highlights the increasing gap between soaring smartphone prices and stagnant wage growth in the region.
In contrast, workers in Singapore need only 5.7 days to purchase the same device, thanks to a more favorable wage-to-price ratio. Singapore's average monthly salary is roughly SGD 5,897 (approximately HK$35,570), making it easier for its workforce to buy the iPhone 16 Pro.
Globally, Swiss workers have the best position, requiring just four days of work to afford the latest iPhone. Workers in the United States and Australia follow, needing 5.1 and 5.7 days, respectively.
