Asian couple who gave birth to white twins settles with erring fertility clinic

An Asian American couple from New York has reached a settlement with a fertility clinic in Southern California after a mix-up resulted in the mother giving birth to twins of a different race.

The couple had undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Cha Fertility Clinic in 2018, but the clinic mistakenly implanted embryos from another family into the mother, leading to the birth of two white boys instead of the expected twin girls. The couple discovered the error during ultrasounds, but the clinic initially dismissed their concerns.

It was only confirmed upon the birth of the boys in March 2019. The couple filed a lawsuit against the clinic, accusing them of medical malpractice and negligence, among other charges.

They also had to give up the newborns to their biological parents. The settlement amount remains undisclosed. Another couple who had a similar experience with the clinic also settled for an undisclosed amount.
