Police reported the death of a 67-year-old woman from a fire outbreak at her apartment in Tseung Kwan O on Friday.
According to the police, the call was received about the smoke that was coming from a unit at Tak Hong House in Hau Tak Estate in the early morning around 5 am.
The fire was extinguished within half an hour by the firefighters, the report said.
The police investigations suggested that the fire was a result of the fire that broke out from a short circuit in an electric kettle.
The woman was found unconscious in her bathroom and was at once rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where she was eventually pronounced dead.
Another incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in which a pregnant 31-year-old woman was knocked down by a lorry driver at the intersection of Hoi Bun Road and Tsun Yip Street in Kwun Tong and eventually died of head injury at Kwong Wah Hospital on Thursday.
Following the incident, police arrested the 59-year-old truck driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and released him on bail.
On Friday, the lorry driver appeared in court for allegedly being involved in the driving that killed a pregnant woman and her baby. He is now remanded in custody.
The man did not enter a plea during the hearing at Kwun Tong Court, it was reported.
As the defendant was denied bail by the court, the case was adjourned until April 12 for further investigation by the police.

週五，卡車司機因涉嫌駕駛導致一名孕婦及其嬰兒死亡而出庭。 他現在還押候審。
據報道，該名男子在觀塘法院的聆訊中沒有提出抗辯。
由於法庭拒絕被告保釋，案件押後至4月12日以待警方進一步調查。
