A well-known tycoon in Hong Kong, Solina Chau Hoi-shuen, a business partner in the Chung Kong Group and the director of the Li Ka Shing Foundation has promised to provide financial assistance of HK$3,300 to each female student taking the exams in Hong Kong.
It was said that HK$3,300 would be given to 15000 female students attending government secondary and subsidized secondary schools who take six subjects in the exams city’s university entrance examination next year.
The DSE exam costs HK$3,356 for six subjects, with each language subject priced at HK$718 and the other subjects at HK$480. The fund is expected to cover students’ Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exam fees for six subjects. The foundation aims to disburse the subsidy before the third quarter of this year so that pupils can “concentrate on exam preparation without worries”, it was explained.
The Hong Kong government recently announced that it would put an end to waiving examination fees for all students as a result of the budget deficit, the effort that started in 2019.
According to this year's record, 50,803 students applied for the city’s university entrance exam, 43,295 of whom were school candidates. Half of the applicants were enrolled in six subjects, and the exam results will be released on July 17.
The 2025 DSE applications will open in September.
