A taxi fare may be increased by up to 17% in Hong Kong with urban flag-fall charge jumping to HK$32 if authorities accept the proposal

Hong Kong authorities are looking into the request by the taxi industry to increase the fare to around 17 per cent and that includes a rise in the flag-fall rate for red cabs in urban areas from HK$27 to HK$32, as the industry pledges to improve the services of the cabbies in the city.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau on Monday said that the proposed fare hike to be presented to the lawmakers would suggest a HK$5 increase for the flag-fall rate for red cabs in urban areas to HK$32, a HK$4.50 rise for green cabs in the New Territories and HK$6 for blue taxis on Lantau Island, a uniform rate of HK$28.

At the same time, it would suggest an increase in the incremental charge for the first-tier distance travelled after the flag falls to HK$2.10 for red cabs, HK$1.90 for green cabs and HK$1.80 for blue cabs, a range between 10 to 20 HK cents.

The average rate for the fare increases would be 16.95 per cent for urban taxis, 15.37 per cent for the New Territories and 11.68 per cent for Lantau, it was said.

同時，建議降旗後一級行駛里程的增量收費增加至紅色出租車2.10港元、綠色出租車1.90港元和藍色出租車1.80港元，幅度在10至20之間港分。

市區的士平均加價16.95%，新界區平均加價15.37%，大嶼山則平均加價11.68%。
