“On Sunday night, they took a taxi to the park, where the man asked to break up with her. But the woman became emotionally agitated and suddenly jumped off the waterfall,” the source said.
“The man went to the bottom of the waterfall and found her floating face down in the water. He thought she was dead and fled the scene without calling police.”
The body was discovered on Monday morning at around 7.30am by a passer-by. The domestic helper was certified dead at 8.18am.
It was said that an Octopus card and keys were found in the woman’s pockets, while her phone and slippers were found at the bottom of the waterfall. Police used her phone to discover her identity.
According to earlier reports, the woman was believed to have drowned after she was hit by a hard object, with injuries measuring from two to four centimetres found on her head.
She had worked in Hong Kong for four years and recently completed a contract, but had not started a new one.
The arrested couple left the city on Monday morning for Guangzhou via the high-speed rail service but returned on Tuesday at 5 pm and were immediately arrested.
