A 29-year-old Hong Kong man has been charged with 13 criminal offences including manslaughter. He was alleged of drugging six men he was said to have either raped or stolen their possessions. One of the men was killed in a Hong Kong hotel last year in the course of his crime.
Au Chi-ken, a marketing manager was charged on Thursday of manslaughter and 12 other counts by his prosecutors.
According to the report, the defendant has been remanded in custody since he first appeared in the dock in March 2023, and will remain behind bars until the case is heard again at Eastern Court next month.
A revised indictment accused Au of drugging six men, including the one who died, to either rape them or steal their belongings.
He allegedly killed the deceased, identified in court only as C, at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui on March 14 last year.
The defendant alleged to have given the man a mix of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), both date rape drugs, as well as tadalafil, an anti-impotence substance. He is also alleged to have stolen a mobile phone from him.
The accused was said to have targeted the remaining five at three other locations on the Kowloon peninsula between March 7 and 15 last year.
He is alleged to have raped two of the five men while they were unconscious.
Au is also alleged to have stolen four mobile phones, a watch, a ring, a pair of earphones, 4,000 yuan and HK$1,200 from three of them during the encounters.
He is charged with manslaughter, use of a noxious substance with intent to injure, two counts of administering drugs to obtain or facilitate an unlawful sexual act, two of buggery without consent, three of using a substance with intent to commit an indictable offence and four of theft.
