The overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) hired by Taiwanese companies who have revealed exemplary performance in their various workplaces were promoted and allowed to be permanent residents in Taiwan with their families, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) said via local news platform.
According to the recent statement by the MECO Chair Silvestre Bello III, the 53 OFWs who work with companies in Taoyuan, such as I-Mei Foods Co. Ltd had been offered and given the incentives already. These companies had hired over 10,000 Filipino workers over the last 30 years, the report stated.
"Mei Foods alone, about 53 overseas Filipino workers had been promoted to mid-managerial positions. That gave them the privilege of being exempted from the maximum period of stay in Taiwan, Bello said via the local news report.
He said further that more companies were also granting similar benefits to OFWs, given an example where a Filipino worker was recognised by the Taiwanese government for outstanding performance and was promoted to a managerial position in the electronic company he was employed.
The MECO official disclosed that the government of Taiwan "allows foreign workers a maximum of 12 years of working in manufacturing firms except when given mid-level work assignments."
And with the company's assistance, they can apply for permanent residence and invite their families to live with them in Taiwan, he stated further.
