21-Year-Old HKU Postgraduate Charged with Knife Possession to Intimidate Professor

On October 26, 2024, a 21-year-old postgraduate student from the University of Hong Kong (HKU), identified as Tang Peng-pei, was charged with possessing an offensive weapon. This charge follows an incident where he allegedly brought a kitchen knife to campus with the intention of intimidating a professor.

The case was presented in the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts, where Tang was not required to enter a plea. The magistrate, at the request of the prosecution, adjourned the proceedings until November 25 in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts for further police investigation. Tang is currently in custody under correctional supervision, with a bail application set to be reviewed on Monday.

The incident occurred on October 25, when Tang reportedly had the knife in Room 02 of the Haking Wong Building at HKU's Western District campus, allegedly intending to use it for unlawful purposes.
